Fixed Ladder Cages and the OSHA 2036 Deadline: What Changed in 2026
On fixed ladders that extend more than 24 feet above a lower level, any ladder installed or replaced on or after November 19, 2018 must have a personal fall arrest system or a ladder safety system; a cage no longer satisfies the rule for those ladders. Existing caged ladders installed before that date are still allowed today, and the November 18, 2036 deadline to retrofit them was proposed for removal by OSHA in April 2026. That proposal is not final. Plan on a ladder safety system for every new or replaced ladder now, and track the rulemaking before budgeting a plant-wide retrofit.

Indoor Heat Rules in 2026: Federal Status, State Requirements, and What a Cool-Down Room Needs
There is no final federal OSHA heat standard as of this review: the proposed rule was published August 30, 2024 and the post-hearing comment period closed October 30, 2025, with no final date posted. OSHA still enforces heat hazards under the General Duty Clause and renewed its heat National Emphasis Program in April 2026 for five years, covering indoor work. Several states already have indoor rules. California's is the most specific: at 82°F indoors the employer must provide a cool-down area that is shielded from radiant heat, ventilated or cooled, kept below 82°F unless infeasible, seated, and close to the work. An air-conditioned modular room on the floor is the direct way to meet that.

PUMP Act Lactation Space Requirements for Plants and Warehouses
Under the PUMP for Nursing Mothers Act, covered employers must provide reasonable break time and a space, other than a bathroom, that is shielded from view and free from intrusion from coworkers and the public, for an employee to express milk for up to one year after the child's birth. The Department of Labor says the space needs a place to sit and a flat surface other than the floor for the pump, and that a space temporarily created or converted for the purpose is sufficient. A small modular room with a locking door, an outlet, a chair, and a table on the plant floor meets every element and can be relocated when the line changes.

A Forklift Hit My Pallet Rack: Repair or Replace, and How to Stop the Next One
Unload the affected bays and isolate the area first; the Rack Manufacturers Institute's guidance under ANSI MH16.1 is to inspect regularly and, when damage is found, immediately isolate it. A storage rack design professional then decides among four paths: replace the component with the manufacturer's part, install an engineered repair kit, straighten only where the steel's properties are preserved, or field-weld under an engineer's direction. To stop the next hit, protect the upright with column guards that wrap the face and sides, guard the aisle ends where trucks turn, and add rack netting where product could fall onto people.

Separating Pedestrians from Forklifts: What OSHA Expects and What a Walkway Kit Includes
OSHA's powered industrial truck guidance lists the controls in order of strength: designated pedestrian walkways, permanent railings or other protective barriers, walking space on one side of aisles, floor striping where barriers cannot be used, convex mirrors at blind corners, signs, and speed limits. Aisles and passageways must be marked under 1910.176(a), and an exit access must be at least 28 inches wide under 1910.36(g)(2). A protected walkway pairs a rated double-rail barrier along the route with self-closing gates at crossings, bollards at corners, and marking, laid out from your plan.

Plant Floor Noise: OSHA Limits, and How Much a Modular Office or Enclosure Actually Blocks
OSHA 1910.95 sets the permissible exposure limit at 90 dBA as an eight-hour time-weighted average and requires a hearing conservation program once exposure reaches 85 dBA. The engineering options are to enclose the source, separate the people, or absorb the reflections. Standard modular office panels are typically rated around STC 30 to 31, which makes normal speech inaudible but leaves loud machinery audible; sound-rated panel options go higher. Industrial sound curtains are commonly rated in the 10 to 15 dB reduction range. Enclosing a single loud machine usually costs less than protecting everyone around it.
