A storage mezzanine is a free-standing steel platform engineered to a uniform live load, typically 125 psf for shelving and light storage and 150 to 250 psf for pallets and dense storage. It comes with the deck you choose, stairs, handrail with kickplate, and a safety gate at the loading edge.

Mezzanines
Mezzanine Safety Gate, Pivot or Pallet-Drop
A gate that keeps the mezzanine edge closed while a pallet is being loaded, so no one can step off the edge.

How to specify storage mezzanines
Design starts with length, width, clear height under the deck, load rating, and the widest column spacing your floor below can tolerate. Bar grating lets sprinklers and light through; resin board gives a smooth walking surface; diamond plate takes wash-down and abuse. Pallet loading by forklift needs a pivot or drop gate so the edge is never open while someone is on the deck.
Non-sealed drawings are included with every quote. Engineer-sealed drawings for the installation state are a separate line, because most permit offices require them for a structural platform. Installation is available through factory-certified crews or by your team using the drawings.
Before you ask for a quote, know:
- Length x width, clear height under the deck, and building clear height above it
- What goes on it and the load rating in psf
- Deck type, stair count, gate type, and any lift or conveyor openings
- Column spacing limits, slab thickness, and sprinklers above the footprint
- Installation state, for drawings and code references
Questions buyers ask
- What load rating do I need?
- 125 psf covers shelving and light storage. Pallet racking on the deck, equipment, and dense storage usually need 150 to 250 psf, and point loads matter as much as the uniform load. The builder flags mismatches as you enter them.
- Do I need a second stair?
- Platforms over roughly 2,000 square feet, or with more than a few occupants, usually need two means of egress. Plan on it unless the code official has agreed otherwise.
